The Cardinal Foundation is accepting applications for scholarships to assist qualified Gadsden State Community College students, according to a news release from the college.

The scholarships may be applied toward tuition, fees, and books for the 2020-2021 academic terms. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. March 30; mail submissions must be postmarked by March 28.

• Gerald Acker Scholarship for the Electrical Technology Program: Awarded to a first-year student planning to enroll and one currently enrolled student. Each scholarship has a $2,000 value; $1,000 can apply to any two semesters.

• Benjamin Steinberg Nursing Scholarship: $500 to one Etowah County resident accepted into the Gadsden State Registered Nursing program.

• Michael Scott Hatten Memorial Scholarship: $1,000 to a student pursuing a degree in the precision machining program at the Ayers Campus in Anniston.

• Tim and Laura McCartney Career Technical Education Scholarship Fund: Three $1,500 scholarships annually to cover tuition, books, and fees for students in tech programs involving the construction trades; available to current seniors or graduates from a public or private high school in Etowah County; applicants must reside in Etowah County and have a minimum high school GPA of 2.5; financial need is one of the criteria.

• Cardinals Who Give Scholarship: $1,500 to three students who are enrolling or are currently enrolled at Gadsden State.

• Swoop Sprint 5k Scholarships: Awarded to a student enrolled (in any curriculum aside from nursing or pre-med) at any campus located in Gadsden, a student enrolled in a career technical program and a student enrolled at Gadsden State Cherokee; $1,500 to each student.

The criteria for determining the scholarship awards include grade point average, official transcripts, career goal summary, residential status, and financial need.

Alan Cleveland of Adamson and Cleveland, LLC. 2020 Scholarship
The scholarship will have three prizes, ranging from $250 to $1,000. High school seniors are eligible to apply, as long as they plan to use the money to pay for college-related expenses. 

To apply, students must submit an essay or video essay response to the following prompt:

What is your school and/or community currently doing to promote safer driving? In your
opinion, what could they be doing?

The deadline to apply for the scholarship is June 5, 2020. The winners will be announced in July.

Alabama School Public Relations Association 2020 Scholarship ($500.00)

for High School Students enrolling in an Alabama college or university seeking a degree in communication, public relations or a related field. The candidate must be a high school junior or senior at an Alabama public school with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 1.0 scale. Find complete details and application at

Alabama Stonewall Jackson Memorial Fund Repayable Scholarship Program
The Alabama Stonewall Jackson Memorial Fund, established in 1955 by an act of the Alabama Legislature, awards up to three repayable scholarships each May.
To be considered for a scholarship award, the applicant must be an Alabama high school senior and submit an original essay of 1500 to 2500 words on Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson.
Repayable scholarships are awarded in the following amounts:
1st place:$3,000
2nd place: $2,000
3rd place: $1,000
Submissions must be postmarked no later than April 1.

Description: Scholarships are available to any graduating high school senior. Merit Scholarships will be awarded based on the extent and quality of a student’s overall high school performance. Selections of recipients will focus on a strong academic record with emphasis on extracurricular involvement, leadership experience and community service. All applications are due by March 1st, 2020.

The scholarship is open now and will be closing on May 1st, 2019. There are three prizes available totaling $4,500. Students who apply must submit an essay of approximately 500 words, the topics can be found here; High school and college/university students across the United States are eligible. Those younger than 17 will need parental consent to apply.

The Alabama Sports Officials Foundation is organized exclusively to provide educational scholarships to individual students with a high school diploma who are enrolled in a post-secondary institution located in the State of Alabama.  A recipient must be a sports official who is currently affiliated with the Alabama High School Athletic Association, a child (natural or adopted) or grandchild of a sports official or the child (natural or adopted) or grandchild of the sport official's spouse, who is or has been affiliated with the Alabama High School Athletic Association for at least three annual registrations.  A recipient must be in good standing at the current educational institution. (High School or College)  The currently registered sports official must be in good standing with the Alabama High School Athletic Association.

We have partnered with the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama to handle the application process this year. We now have a paperless application process.

You will need the following information to complete the application:
  1. AHSAA Sports Officials Number (this may be yours, your parents, or grandparents AHSAA Sports Officials Number)
    A copy of the FASFA?s Student Aid Report (Expected Family Contribution section)
    ACT test score documentation

Applications may be submitted from January 1 to March 1.  Please note: all fully completed applications must be submitted by March 1.

Applicants will be selected and notified by the end of April. If selected, additional information will be required in order for payment to be issued. Scholarship awards will be sent directly to the college/university.

In addition, those awarded the Alabama Sports Officials Foundation Scholarships will be required to attend the AHSAA Officials Luncheon held in Montgomery in July 2019. Recipients will receive final instructions and will be recognized for their achievement at this event.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Do applicants need to be high school graduates attending college for the first time in the Fall?
A: A student will qualify for the scholarship if he/she is graduating from high school and will be attending an in-state institution in the Fall. Also, a student already in college at an in-state institution can apply for the scholarship. He/She will be eligible every year of enrollment seeking an undergraduate degree at an in-state institution.  He/She can apply for the scholarship each year he/she is eligible but can only be selected to receive it once.  This scholarship will not be awarded to a student seeking a post-graduate degree.
Q. Does the student and a parent need to supply their AHSAA Official's number on the application form?
A. If the student is an active AHSAA official, the parent is not required to fill in their AHSAA Official's number. (Although it is Recommended!)  If the student is not an active AHSAA Official, then the parent is required to fill in their AHSAA Official's number on the application form.
Q.  When does the application process begin and end?
A.  The application form will be available January 1  and will remain so until March 1.  The recipients will be notified before May 1.
Q. When will the recipients actually receive the scholarships?
A. The institutions of the recipients will be contacted and the scholarship funds will be sent directly to their institutions in their names after the recipients are presented certificates during the AHSAA Officials Luncheon in Montgomery.  The recipients will be recognized and honored at the AHSAA Official's Awards Luncheon in July.  Attendance is expected.

The Etowah County School Foundation will award a $500.00 scholarship to a high school senior from each of our six high schools. Scholarship applications must be submitted to Kim Reed on or before Friday, April 3, 2020. Applications received after April 3rd will not be considered.
