Q: How do I become a school bus driver?

A: To become a school bus driver, complete the following steps:

  1. Study the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Manual sections on General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Passenger and ā€œSā€ Endorsement (http://http//www.alea.gov/).
  2. Take CDL written exam at the Jacksonville State Trooper's Office. Inform examiner you are taking the test to be a school bus driver.
  3. Contact Mr. Jerry Sparks or Mrs. Dana Elrod (256-538-8331) about attending New Drivers School.
  4. Contact Alice Lee at the Etowah County Board of Education Central Office, 401 Broad Street, Gadsden, AL 35901, 256-549-7584, to complete your paperwork and background check.
