Combining English and History in 21st Century Classrooms (Adaptable for grades 6-12)

Three project-based assignments that utilize research skills, writing, history, and 21st Century technologies are included in this file.  Although research writing is at the root of each of these projects, students get the opportunity to use several Web 2.0 tools such as blogs and wikis. The goal of these projects is to make research writing meaningful to students, as well as help them become actively engaged in self-discovery. Teacher and student resources, student samples, and rubrics are also provided.

    Writing with Brush Strokes

Harry Noden teaches that there are five basic "brush strokes" that guide young writers through the essentials of writing. He uses the metaphor of "painting" to teach kids grammatical elements.  Once can teach this process in less than a week, and the results are amazing!  Great idea to improve ADAW scores!   It's fun, and the students love it!  To see a copy of the 5 main writing "brush strokes," click here.   The attached file contains engaging images for brush stroke writing.
